What is Pharmacogenetic Testing?
Every person has a unique set of DNA that determines how they'll react to specific drugs. Pharmacogenetic testing (also called pharmacogenomics or PGx testing) reveals which mental health medications are most compatible with your biology.

The Challenge: Finding the Right Medication
Finding an effective psychiatric medication often involves trial and error. Research shows that two-thirds of patients won’t achieve complete relief from the first medication they try (STAR*D trial).
Pharmacogenetic Testing Removes the Guesswork
Genetic testing helps identify:
- Which medications are most likely to work for your specific genetic profile
- Which medications may cause side effects based on how your body metabolizes them
- Which medications to avoid due to genetic incompatibility
- Optimal dosing guidance based on your metabolism

Step 1
Simple Sample Collection
The patient can be tested on-site at Synapse Behavioral Health or self-test at home. The test consists of a simple cheek swab to collect DNA.
