Jennifer Barna
Director of Clinical Services
Clinical Psychotherapist
Jennifer Barna is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 15 years of experience working in trauma-focused settings, including addiction treatment, foster care systems, and community mental health. She specializes in trauma-focused therapy with advanced training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), and brings deep expertise in treatment-resistant depression, anxiety disorders, and somatic-based approaches that help clients understand and regulate their nervous systems.
Jennifer most commonly works with adults navigating trauma, PTSD, anxiety, chronic stress, and treatment-resistant depression. Many of the individuals she sees feel stuck in long-standing patterns, whether in relationships, self-criticism, burnout, or emotional overwhelm. She also specializes in supporting clients who appear high-functioning on the outside but internally carry significant stress or struggle with unresolved experiences.
Her approach is collaborative, warm, and grounded in evidence-based practice. Jennifer creates a space where clients feel genuinely understood while also being gently challenged to grow. She helps people make meaningful connections between their past and present, understand their nervous system responses, and build practical tools that support lasting change. Her goal is not just symptom relief, but helping clients feel more steady, empowered, and connected to themselves.
In addition to her clinical work, Jennifer serves as Director of Clinical Services at Synapse Behavioral Health, where she oversees clinical programming and supervision, supporting therapists and shaping thoughtful, high-quality care across the practice. She also develops and leads structured therapy groups focused on depression, self-compassion, and skills-based support. When appropriate, Jennifer collaborates with medical providers and supports clients participating in ketamine-assisted psychotherapy through therapeutic integration.
